WHITEWASHING + AB BLASTERS

Last weekend i said good bye to some projects I've been helping a friend with. Bindi Cole and I have worked together on many projects over the years. She's helped me out with a few music videos and I've filmed and/or edited most of her screen based projects.

Whitewash is currently been screened at the NGV on the water door accompanied by a soundscape as created and directed by Bindi Cole.

The projection will run every night for a week from 6pm to 1am starting Thursday 27th May 2010. Stay tuned for details on a Friday night celebration with the NGV!!

Whitewash is a new projection & soundscape work by Bindi Cole that will be projected on the water wall at the NGV International at nighttime during Reconciliation week 2010. Whitewash explores Aboriginal stereoypes and their impact, the effect of government legislation such as the White Australia policy and the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal communities. Whitewash features Aboriginal performer, Ben Graetz and children from both the Geelong High Scool and Kunrunjang College.

Here's a foto of AE struggling to export a heavily masked, 18min long, full quality HD movie file. Notice how i tipped over the screen to mess with ya?! That's what's happening to the projector at NGV. Sideways yo!

Here's a photo I recently stole from someone's facebook page, showing you what the actual projection looks like..

ab blaster 40,000 was an infomercial, also by Bindi Cole, that screened last saturday at the MCG as part of The Sports Club Project, Next Wave Festival 2010.

Here's a behind the scenes look at my ghettofabulous green screen

And a shot of my empty wine glass alongside the keying magic that is the ab blaster infomercial.

I believe tonight is the last night you can view Whitewash, so get down there before midnight. I'll probably still be at home trying to finish off an animation for uni.. paper rolls into pirate ships (screening on a blog near you in the very near future)

PHOTO GRAPHICS

i enjoy a good dabble as much as the next person.

a couple of weeks back i was asked to take some press shots for my mates band. i tried to explain that i didn't own a professional camera and that if they could borrow one, i'd snap a couple off. to cut this story short, i rocked up with my sony cybershot (silver rocket - love you sonic youth)

twiddled the dial and pressed the biggest button. when i got home i plugged my little silver rocket into my flat silver computery thing and messed around in photoshop. here are the results..

see! anyone with a mobile phone CAN be a photographer. don't give up your day job and i'll hang onto mine. deal? deal!

LAST CALL EXHIBITION

PER SQUARE METRE are closing their doors. sad but true. make sure you come down to the opening night and show your support for the kids that built the best street art gallery that ever lived.

here's the low down straight from the horses mouth..

"A Bit A PM2 History for y’all:
Renowned Gallery Per Square Metre was started in 2006 to fill a gap in the commercial gallery market- that of an affordable, accessable, 100% artist run space. The main goals being to promote, inspire and motivate; underground, up-n-coming and amateur artists and help them break into the commercial market.

Per Square Metre encourages INCLUSIVE creativity and is well respected in the scene due to their unpretentious skill sharing, knowledge and passion for all people and things creative. As a studio, their prolific collaborative work in group murals and exhibitions is well known and sought after.

The Studio has housed artists such as Bernard Romerona, Dabs & Myla, Sear, Dvate, Porno, Ling, Mayo, Sigs and numerous other nomadic artists from Australia and around the globe. These artists and the Gallery have been instrumental to raising the profile of street art and graffiti in the legitimate art scene.

The News:
On May 31st 2010, Per Square Metre will close its doors for the last time. Due to forseen circumstances with dodgy landlords and the general gentrification of Collingwood, Per Square Metre is shutting up shop until a new suitable premises can be found to continue bringing you some light love and liquor.

Dont cry! Alas, we knew the time would come when the mothership that is Per Square Metre, would drop and send off her ‘pods’ to spread the love and grow new projects here in Melbourne, around Australia and the world.
THIS IS NOT THE END………THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!
Stay tuned kids…."
